Jats—The Gana (Federation of Northern India)

Historians differ in tracing their origin and their parent stock in India. Some are of the view point that their ancestors were called Yue-Chi in Cgina. Gots in Sweden ,Gotas in Germany, Jats in Jutland (Denmark) and Goths in Gothland in the Baltic Sea .Called Jats or Jits in India ,Iranand U.S.S.R., Jats in Pakistan and Afghanistan, Jatts in Turkey and Egypt, Jotts/Zotts in Arabian countries .These settlers prediominently over from borders of China upto Black Sea .

The exponent of Indo-Scythian Theory put forth the view that ancient country Scythia was the habitation of the Jats . The country named after the Scythia tribes of Central Asia Northern Europe extended from East to the Caspian Sea the vally of river Jihon and Sihon though the South of Europian Russia upto Danube.

Jat community in itself is a vast nation . The Community is spreading over from Himalya in North and East cost of Sindhu Valley, in South upto Hayderabad (present Sindhprovince of Pakistan) and Kucch , Ajmer , Jodh Pur , upto Bhopal and in the East uptoGanga cost Rohel Khond, Doab. Ten crores Jat as Mohammadan in Kirman, Iraq and Afganistan. From Jehlum upto Hansi Hisar ,they are Hindu agriculturist. About fifty thousands Gyspsy in various Europeoun countries.

Astadhyayi grammer seems to be nearest to acceptable truth. This is supported by the fact that almost all the tribes of Jats were professional warriors . There was definitely a Jat federation of ruling class during the time of Panani, Patanjali etc. Ancient ruling families were from this race. The Mandas ,Maurya (mores),the pauras (pores), Kang Variks, The Balhraj , Dharanas were all from this Jat federation . When Purans say that there were seven Ahirs ,ten Gardhabas(Khars)sixteen Sakas (Kangs), fourteen Thsharas(Tusirs),thirteen Mundas, eleven Maunas (Maan) and eleven Puras (pors) all ruling India for about 13000 years. They merely mentioning the various Jats Clans . Something must have happened in 6th and 7th Century AD during the course of the revival of the orthodox Brahmanism which made these people persona non Grata with new orthodoxy.

They are the harbingers of new civilizatin . conservative though not orthdox, Tribal in outlook but democratic by instinct, Clannish though broad minded , Sectarian but not fanatic, pragmatic but not scientific . A true Jat is a fine flower of Indian society

These Manda Clan under Astavega united vast plains under one administration , then these plains were called “Manda empire” under Dahiya Clan , then it got the name Dahistan, Dahia etc. when the Kasvanas Clan was predominant , the Asian plains were called the “Kushana empire”.It were the Jat Clan who gave to history names as Ghangas, Goraya, Tukhar, Kitar etc. Under the supremacy of Tur Clan it was named Tukistan and when they were replaced by Tatran Clan the same land was called Tatari . Their one and only name is Jat and they were at the dawn of history , living in the plains of Central Asia from Mangolia in the East to Scythia in the West.

The Origin of Clan (Gotra)

Khadagrai a writer during emperor Shahjahan reifndescribed that Tomar caste is best among Kshatriyas and they belong to Som Kul and are descendants of Pandavas. Actually Tomar , Tanwar , Tung ,Tunwar is one and same Gotra (Clan) among Rajputs and Jats . Another poet of 17th Century AD Kayam Khani has described Kshatriya in the following lines:

“ Chaun 1st , Tanwar are the second and Panwar is third and other Kuls are in half . Ther is total three and half of Kshatriya.”

Birds of the Same Stock

Many ethic groups among various castes religions sect in India have the same

clan and share common social norms , value and way of life and even occupation , such as Chauhan ,Panwar ,Tanwar ,Solanki ,Beniwal,Chahal, Dagar,Maan,Malik , Rana,Thakur, Singhal, Rawat, Rathi , Trar, Babbars, Tank , Rohil, Dhillon, Sindhu, Sidhu etc. yet they stand divided . This must be dabated so that they can fly together.

DABAS—Jats

(A) Historian Verdict

Indian historians believe that Jats, ancestors of DABAS were the descendents of Indo-Aryan stock . They are pragmatic and unothodox . Strong individualism is another outstanding traits of a typical DABAS character. In fact family or Clan (Gotra) still continue to be the basis of social and political structure . From Vedic period upto now they have exploited the surface of the soil and are agriculturist par excellence . DABAS preserve the Vedic culture and the Vedic culture is the culture of village . The Mohan Jodaro culture the ancient culture of India which has its roots in SindhuGhati . The territory inhabited by Jats and their various Janas and Kulas is the bread basket of the Country . they migrated from one place to another place for new pastures in old times . The foreigners continued pouring in untilthe 6th Century AD. Some of the foreigners must have integrated with them in the course of time.

According to puranic legend Dabas are the sons of Maharishi Dadhichi the great king of Sindh in Vedic period .He has four sons namely Dahiya, Davyas (DABAS) Kundu and Hooda . Dadhichi an emperor turned Maharishi died at the age of 100 years while fighting to Non-Aeyans tribes. In the battle his four sons fought with utmost bravery and anihiliated the non-Aryan.

The epic makers goes on to prove that the families of Dahiya , Dabas , Kundu and Hooda lived together upto the times of Mahabharat in the shape of groups likeSoor, Saini, Birshani and Bhoj. Hey lived in Ujjain , Avantika, Sambal , Inderprastha, Rajasthan and other Northern India parts upto 7th Century AD.

According toHerodotous, Jats and their Janapad (Khap) and Gana continued their old customs and appointed family ganealoist to perpetuate their history of family and the race form Mythic genealogy. And on the basis of genealogy the settlement of DABAS Jats in Northern India and their Dynasty is placed after sustained efforts.
